Author: Call it the “Curse of Mike Hart.” Today, July 30, 2010, marks 1,000 days that the University of Michigan has gone without beating Michigan State in football or basketball, since Nov. 3, 2007, when Hart, the Wolverines star running back, referred to the Spartans as “little brother” in the wake of a 28-24 comeback victory at Spartan Stadium.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg ranked his top 25 players in the preseason, based on “past performance and 2010 potential.” Two Michigan State players were ranked — linebacker Greg Jones was No. 2 and quarterback Kirk Cousins was No. 21.

With former players Mateen Cleaves and Charlie Bell in attendance, the Spartans once again clinched a Big Ten title by embarrassing the Wolverines — just like they did to clinch the championship in March 2000.

It is the first time the teams have met in a CCHA playoff series since 1987, when Michigan State swept Michigan in East Lansing. That also was the last time Michigan had a losing season.

Kalisha Keane stepped up and delivered when the Spartans needed it the most, leading them to their sixth straight win in their rivalry with the Wolverines
With a win, the Wolverines can reach the .500 mark in the Big Ten, end a five-game losing streak to the Spartans and make a push for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
