“From top to bottom,” coach Mark Dantonio said Monday, “I would say probably this is as talented a team as we’ve had.” And then he took it a step further, comfortably thinking big.

Star players get all the attention, and it’s no different at Michigan State. But coach Mark Dantonio didn’t describe the role of any of those players as critical. That moniker fell on punter Aaron Bates.
