East Lansing — Ever since freshman William Gholston set foot on Michigan State’s practice field, there was speculation the 6-foot-7, 260-pounder would make the move from linebacker to defensive end.

Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones and Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor have been selected Big Ten preseason defensive and offensive players of the year, respectively, by media for the second straight year.

Jones, a senior All-America linebacker for Michigan State, spent Wednesday participating in the Heroes for Kids golf outing, hosted by Saginaw natives LaMarr Woodley (Michigan, Pittsburgh Steelers) and Clifton Ryan (Michigan State, St. Louis Rams).

The Detroit Southeastern linebacker, who is also the state's top-rated player, likely will visit other schools, according to Southeastern coach Donshell English.
