Tommy Izzo reminds me of these coaches I’ve admired through my years on active duty in sports journalism and now on the sidelines. But he reminds me mostly of another coach, who stayed, remained loyal, did not flit from job to job.
The coach answers questions from the media about his decision to stay at Michigan State.
To appreciate how different Tuesday night was for the Spartans, think back to the times at MSU when a press conference was called because an important coach was leaving.
Tom Izzo will remain coach of the Michigan State men’s basketball team, the university announced Tuesday night. “It’s been an agonizing week as I tried to make a decision about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Izzo said in a statement.

Scott, the former Lakers player who has coached the Nets and Hornets, could be the Cavaliers backup plan if Izzo stays at MSU. He was fired by New Orleans early this past season, and now works for ESPN.
